Louisville man accused of assault, attempted kidnapping

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Police have arrested a man accused of participating in an assault that happened in late July.

Police records state that Matthew Lewis was arrested on Thursday afternoon at the Kroger store on Goss Avenue, after he reportedly admitted to assaulting a woman in the 4000 block of Picadilly Avenue near Taylor Blvd. July 20.

Police say the victim of the assault suffered serious physical injury and was taken to University Hospital.

Witnesses told police Lewis was armed with a handgun, but Lewis denied it. Police say witnesses also told investigators the trunk of the vehicle driven by Lewis was open during the assault and he and an accomplice tried to drag the victim to the car and place her in the trunk.

Lewis reportedly admitted to assaulting the victim and placing his hands around her throat. Police state that Lewis was cooperative and turned himself in to police.

A second unidentified individual has also been arrested in connection to the case.

Lewis is charged with assault, attempted kidnapping, and wanton endangerment. He is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
