BOZICH | What Tiger Woods Said -- And What Tiger Woods Meant

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The weatherman is in control of the 96th PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club Friday. Hope for the best.

Play has already been stopped once for 45 minutes because of rain. More delays appear likely. The second round will extend into the darkness – or even into Saturday. The story lines will be slow to develop – unless you're a big fan of Ryan Palmer.

You know what that means. It means that when the news cycle slows down in golf it's time to take another look at what is happening with Tiger Woods, who is scheduled to tee off at 2:35 p.m.

At 10:30 Friday morning, Woods was tied for 108th place, after shooting a 3-over-par 74 Thursday.

Let's take one more look at what Tiger said after his first round – and what Woods actually meant.

QUESTION: You look disappointed?

WHAT TIGER SAID: A lot of bad shots and I never got a putt to the hole.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: I stink. I'm not sure I could beat the Jack Nicklaus statue right now.

QUESTION: How much was the state of (your) game versus just not being here in 14 years?

WHAT TIGER SAID: As I said, I didn't play as well as I wanted to and I didn't get a putt to the hole. That's not a good combo.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: Didn't you listen to me the first time? I said I stink.

QUESTION: In terms of your swing, do you feel like it's where you want it to be?

WHAT TIGER SAID: My swing was dialed in on that range out there. Unfortunately I didn't carry it to the golf course.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: I'm lost. Can you recommend a good swing coach? Champions don't talk about how great they felt on the range. This is really silly.

QUESTION: How's your injured back?

WHAT TIGER SAID: It (my back) is a little bit stiff. But that's about it. The surgery part is fine. That's all good.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: What till you turn 38, pal, and tell me how your back feels.

QUESTION: What's your outlook for the weekend? Can you contend?

WHAT TIGER SAID: Yeah, I get to under par by the end of (Friday), whatever that is. Or the end of my second round. If we get storms, it could be Saturday. If I get under par for two rounds, that will be right in the ball game.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: Do you believe in miracles?

QUESTION: How did you enjoy playing with Phil Mickelson?

WHAT TIGER SAID: You know, unfortunately Phil and I just never get paired together.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: Why would we ever play together on weekends anymore? Have you checked our scores this season? This ain't 2006, buddy. Go follow Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson if you want to see a good show.

QUESTION: Are you going on the range the way you typically would like to?

WHAT TIGER SAID: Not today. I'm going to get treatment and make sure this thing is nice and loose for tomorrow.

WHAT TIGER MEANT: I just hope I can get a flight out of here as soon as I'm dismissed.
