Saint Joe's Picnic for the Kids kicks off Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - It's one of the most popular events in Louisville, and today, a great turnout showed for Saint Joe's Picnic for the Kids.

Thousands of volunteers spent the morning setting up tents and booths along Frankfort Avenue.

It's the 165th year for the event, which helps support some of Kentucky's most abused and neglected kids.

Popular food and game booths draw people in.

One man says he's been coming to the event every year, since he was eight-years-old.

"Well I usually bring about $250-300 with me and once I go through all that it's time for me to go home," Danny McBride said. "But I think on the news last night they said there were 90 children here and ... I like to donate to help the children out."

Money raised not only goes back into the Children's Home, but it will also help pay for new cottages under construction.
