BurHEATo challenge sizzles with world's hottest chile pepper
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Salsarita's recently teamed up with PuckerButt Pepper Company to create the world's hottest burrito, aka The BurHEATo. The new menu item is made with Smokin' Ed's Carolina Reaper, the Guinness World Record Holder for Hottest Chile Pepper, which is 300 times hotter than the average jalapeno pepper.
Keith Kaiser invited Dr. Jason McNabb, a local dentist who holds the Guinness World Record for eating Ghost Chilis and some special guests to sample the entree. Can Keith and the others handle the heat?
The BurHEATo is packed with grilled chicken, black beans, rice, pueblo corn salsa, tomatoes, cilantro, and just one tablespoon of Smokin Ed's Carolina Reaper pepper sauce. It is available through September 22nd.
Chili peppers, such as jalepeño, cayenne, and habanero peppers, contain capsaicin, which is the main ingredient in pepper spray. Capsaicin can add flavor and spiciness to food, but can also cause an extreme burning sensation which can last for minutes or even hours. Capsaicin is a natural oil found in all chilies, what we have come to call peppers. Cool off that burning mouth or skin by neutralizing the capsaicin with a variety of liquids such as milk or sugar water.
