Police say father is to blame for 7-week-old baby's death

MULDRAUGH, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 7-week-old baby is dead and police say his father is to blame.

"Tragic, very tragic." Muldraugh Police Chief Charlie Ashbaugh said of Bradlyn Braddam, "It's a senseless death of a month-and-a-half-old child."

Eric Braddam, the father of 7-week-old Bradlyn Braddam is now behind bars, charged with murder. Muldraugh Police say on Thursday night, officers were called to this trailer on Dewey Street where the family lives. The baby was unresponsive. An officer and sheriff's deputies performed CPR, but could not revive him.

"They could tell child wasn't breathing at the time," Ashbaugh said. "As far as internal injuries, all I know is traumatic brain injury with no blunt force. It's consistent with shaken baby."

The baby's mother tells WDRB News that her boyfriend is a loving person and loved his son. She says she doesn't know what happened with the baby because she hasn't been able to talk to the baby's father.

Paula Spagnola, the infant's grandmother, said "He felt like Bradlyn didn't like him because whenever he would put him in his arms, he would be fussy. I tried to explain to him even if you're the slightest bit nervous around a baby, they sense it."

Ashbaugh says the couple moved to Muldraugh a few months ago and he believes the baby was shaken on Wednesday, a day before police were called.

Spagnola said, "Really he is afraid of the baby because he's a large guy, tall, big hands and Bradlyn was so tiny. He was afraid he was going to hurt him."

Police are still investigating the case and the family says this is out of character for Braddam.

Ashbaugh said "When it comes to a month-and-a-half-old child, it's hard for everybody to deal with."

Braddam is being held at the Meade County Detention Center on a $100,000 full cash bond. He is expected in court on Wednesday
