Bankrate.com determines most expensive states for drivers
According to a 2014 study by Bankrate, Wyoming actually tops the list. That's because living in "big sky country" means drivers log more miles and have to buy more gas. Wyoming drivers spend, on average, $2,700 a year on gas, insurance and repairs for their cars.
The national average is $2,200.
Louisiana and Florida are the second and third most expensive places to own a car.
The cheapest states for drivers are Iowa, Ohio, and Illinois. Drivers in those states all spend less than $2,000 a year.
