LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Diageo plans to break ground on its $115 million whiskey distillery in Shelby County on Thursday, Aug. 21.

The distillery will be just east of Shelbyville at 3900 Benson Pike. Gov. Steve Beshear will attend the 10 a.m. ceremony along with Diageo North America President Larry Schwartz and Tom Bulleit, founder of Bulleit Distilling Co.

Bulleit is Diageo's most recognizable bourbon brand. The company also owns Crown Royal Canadian whiskey, Captain Morgan rum, Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.

Diageo announced it would build the distillery in May. The company planned to buy 300 acres for the site.
