Wal-Mart blames earnings hit on healthcare costs

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Wal-Mart says yearly earnings will take a hit because so many workers are signing up for the company's healthcare coverage.

The company says more workers are taking advantage of it than expected. Workers can pay as little as $18 a paycheck for the lowest priced healthcare plan.

Wal-Mart says all the extra benefits will cost it $500-million more this year.

That means the company will earn less this year than it had promised its investors.

Wal-Mart has more than two million workers around the world.
