LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A recent study from
has some potentially helpful tips for college students -- and their parents.

The site tells students to choose their major carefully, because it could impact their salary.

The website researched 120 popular college majors. It found those dealing with data, economics, math, management information, and finance all lead to bigger paychecks.

Anything related to computers - such as software engineering or computer science - is also good for your job prospects.

"In addition to the best college majors, we were also able to identify some college majors that don't lead to a lot of career success and by career success we really define that as above average salaries and above average hiring prospects and above average growth prospects for the jobs people tend to find who have those majors," said Mike DeSenne, Senior Editor for Kiplinger.

The study said that the less lucrative careers include social work, culinary arts, animal science, and art history.
