Trial split for 2 facing murder, racketeering charges in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A federal judge has ordered separate trials for two men charged with murder for hire and racketeering in Louisville.

U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn II granted a request by Dion Jajuan Neal to face a different jury than his co-defendant, Ricky Lewis Kelly. Heyburn ordered Neal's trial to start in federal court in Louisville on Sept. 8. No trial date has been set for Kelly.

The two men have pleaded not guilty to taking part in a conspiracy to kill Lajuante "B.B." Jackson in 2005 as part of an effort to protect a drug trafficking organization.

The men were indicted in 2011.
