Houston thief says stolen jewelry and purses were all fakes

HOUSTON (WDRB) - An anonymous caller who took responsibility for stealing designer purses and jewelry from a multi-million dollar home in Houston, Texas says they're all fakes.

The heist was caught on security camera.

Weeks after Theresa Roemer's home was burglarized, an anonymous call was placed to Houston Press reporter Craig Malisow with the claim that Rolex, Cartiers, and Chanel watches valued at close to $1 million were all fakes.

Malisow says the call came."from a person with one of those voice modulator things. And they claimed to be the person who burglarized Theresa. So this person was upset that he went through all this trouble of stealing from someone and he didn't get anything."

To prove the point, the alleged thief sent the Houston Press a package containing some of the reported stolen goods, including a locket with a strand of hair inside.

The homeowner said a similar locket containing the hair of her deceased son was among the items stolen.

The package and a recording of the phone call were turned over to police.

The alleged thief even offered to give back the stolen items for $500,000, but the deal never went through.
