LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The pregnant wife of a U.S. Marine who had been missing for several months was found dead over the weekend.

"The search concluded with the discovery of Erin Corwin's body in a 140-foot mine shaft," Sheriff John McMahon said.

Search teams spent more than 5,000 hours over the last two months before finding Corwin's body just outside the Joshua Tree National Park in California.

Corwin, 19, was married to her high school sweetheart, Marine Corporal Jonathan Corwin. Officials believe she was having an affair with Christopher Lee, 24, her former neighbor.

Police say evidence, including foot prints and tire tracks, made Lee a suspect. He was arrested on Sunday in Alaska and charged with Corwin's murder.

Police are working to extradite him to California.
