Employee at cell phone store bound with packing tape during armed robbery; police seeking suspects

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shively Police are looking for two men wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a cell phone store early Tuesday.

According to Shively Police Sgt. Josh Myers, it happened around 9 a.m. at the Cellular Sales store (an authorized Verizon reseller) in the 4400 block of Dixie Hwy. Police say two men armed with guns entered the store, directed the employee to the back room, tied him up with packing tape and stole nearly $30,000 worth of merchandise. The employee was not hurt during the robbery. He called 911 after the robbers left.

The men were armed with guns and police say they appear to be in their late teens/early 20s.

A nearby cell phone store has also been burglarized three times in the last two months. Police are working to figure out if they're connected.

"Because of the type of merchandise that was taken in both incidents, today's robbery and the burglaries, being similar merchandise, to see if there's any ties to this or if they're isolated incidents," said Sgt. Myers.

Myers said it's possible the two could be targeting other electronic stores.

"We're certainly working alongside Louisville Metro," Myers said. "I believe they've had some similar incidents, working with their robbery unit, other detectives to see if all this ties together and hopefully narrow it down and make apprehensions."

Anyone who recognizes the suspects is asked to call Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers at 502-582-CLUE or Shively Police at 502-448-6181.
