LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- What do you think of the Kentucky Common Core standards? The Department of Education wants to hear your feedback. On Monday morning, it announced the Kentucky Core Academic Standards Challenge. The state is asking people to read the Common Core standards and determine if they're appropriate for each grade level.
The challenge runs through April 30.
"In higher ed, we're going to look how we can get these standards to be more rigorous to a degree," said Aaron Thompson of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. "Or more appropriate, how can expectations that we help K-12 and higher ed teachers help all of our kids no matter where they are coming from, no matter what demographic they had?"
The Kentucky Core Academic Standards in English/language arts and math were the result of Senate Bill 1 back in 2009 that mandated new, more rigorous academic standards in all content areas.
The standards have been taught in Kentucky classrooms since the 2011-12 school year.
