CRAWFORD BLOG | Harrell named preseason All-American by Blue Ribbon

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville junior captain Montrezl Harrell has been named a first-team preseason All-American by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

Harrell joins Malcolm Brogdon of Virginia, Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky, Marcus Paige of North Carolina and Fred Van Vleet of Wichita State on the first team.

All five are on the cover of the 2014-15 yearbook, which is available for pre-order now.

Harrell was voted the most improved player in the American Athletic Conference as a sophomore, averaging 14 points and 8.4 rebounds while blocking 49 shots in the Cardinals' 31-6 season.

He was sixth nationally in field goal percentage at 60.9 percent. He had 12 double-doubles, including 11 in the final 22 games. His 97 dunks shattered the previous school single-season record of 59 and his 142 in two seasons ranks third on U of L's career list.

This makes the third straight season U of L has placed a player on the Blue Ribbon preseason team: Russ Smith made it before last season and Peyton Siva the year before that.
