LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Another American has been killed in Syria and officials believe he died fighting for ISIS.

Family members dispute the claims that Douglas McArthur McCain had become a jihadi. "He's not ISIS. He's not a terrorist," McCain's family said.

U.S. officials believe there are more than 100 other Americans who've also joined the terror group, which is responsible for the brutal murder of U.S. journalist James Foley.

In an appearance Tuesday, President Obama promised there would be no U.S. combat troops on the ground in Iraq, saying it would only anger radicals.

“The answer is not to send in large-scale military deployments that overstretch our military, and lead for us occupying countries for a long period of time, and end up feeding extremism," Obama said.

ISIS officials may be holding another American - a 26-year-old woman who was working as an aid worker in Syria.
