New nail polish detects date rape drugs

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new nail polish can warn the woman wearing it if a drink is spiked with a date rape drug.

Undercover Colors was created by four male chemistry students at North Carolina State University. It looks like any polish you would buy in a store, but it changes color when it's exposed to date rape drugs.

A woman can use her finger to stir her cocktail to see if something has been slipped into it.

Undercover Colors won a contest challenging students to design solutions to real-world problems.
