Wayside Christian Mission offers heat relief

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Wayside Christian Mission is just as busy during the hot summer days, as the cold winter ones.

Right now, all the beds at the Mission are full.

Volunteers go out every day in the heat to pass out water bottles to people who don't want to come in.

Wayside's Director, says on White Flag days, more of the homeless will seek shelter from the dangerous heat.

"A lot of times the white flag temperature extremely hot is just as life threatening as the extreme cold is, especially when so many of the homeless suffer from heart disease and other diseases that are exacerbated by the heat," said Chief Operating Officer Nina Moseley.

A White Flag night is defined as one that's 95 degrees with or without the heat index after 6 p.m.
