McConnell says nothing new in tape secretly recorded at strategy conference

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A secret recording of Senator Mitch McConnell is the latest controversy in the campaign for U.S. Senate.

A website called "The Nation" obtained a recording of McConnell speaking to wealthy donors at a strategy conference.

In the clip, McConnell talks about what he would do about raising the minimum wage, if he becomes Senate Majority Leader.

"And we're not going to be debating these gosh-darn proposals. That's all we do in the Senate is vote on things like raising the minimum wage."

The campaign staff for McConnell's challenger, Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, says the recording shows McConnell will hurt Kentuckians to benefit billionaires.

The McConnell camp claims there's nothing in the audio that he hasn't said publicly.
