LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Attendance at the Kentucky State Fair was down significantly this year.

Fair attendance dropped to a 30-year low, with fewer than 600,000 visiting the grounds over 11 days.

Fair officials believe Mother Nature may be to blame, with heat indexes in the triple digits and rainy weather. There were showers and storms on eight of the 11 days of the fair.

Despite the attendance drop, officials say other areas saw growth -- like the competitive entry departments and the World's Championship Horse Show.

The 2014 State Fair generated roughly $16.5 million for the community and state.
