LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - One of Louisville's most famous sports figures was in town today to promote his new book.

Former U of L football coach Howard Schnellenberger signed copies of his book, "Passing the Torch," at two Kroger locations this afternoon.

Schnellenberger coached the Cardinals from 1985 to 1994.

Ron Smith, who co-wrote the book, said he enjoyed the days of interviews with Coach Schnellenberger.

"He's a little bit of a showman," Smith said. "He tells better stories if there are more people around. So as we went along, I started to invite three, four or five different football friends to come with me and give him an audience."

Schnellenberger will also sign Sunday and Monday:

Sunday, Aug. 31: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 4100 Summit Plaza Dr.

Sunday, Aug. 31: 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Northeast Family YMCA, 9400 Mill Brook Rd.

Monday, Sept. 1: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Kroger, 1265 Goss Ave.

Monday, Sept. 1: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at Kroger, 3165 South 2nd St.

Schnellenberger will be in attendance at U of L's opening game Monday night against Miami at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
