Dirt Bowl returns for 44th time at Shawnee Park

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - It started back in 1969 and has featured some of Kentucky's greatest basketball talents.

The 44th Dirt Bowl basketball tournament was played today at Shawnee Park.

The blacktop court was full all afternoon and evening after the final games were postponed due to rain last weekend.

Even after all these years, the hope is that the Dirt Bowl will continue to attract more players.

"Hopefully it'll go on and be a better even than even this year," Dirt Bowl Commissioner Neal Robertson said. "Hopefully each year that we're building, more people will start to come down."

Twenty-eight teams competed this year.

Teams from a kids and old-timers division were crowned champions to go along with the overall winners.
