Local union members celebrate Labor Day at the Zoo

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)---Thousands of local union members got to spend their Labor Day at the zoo.

This marks the 15th year of the Annual Greater Louisville United Labor Picnic.

Union members get the chance to take a day off and come together for food and fun.

This is the 13th year the picnic has been held at the Louisville Zoo.

The president of the United Labor Day Picnic says it's important to be able to give back to the workers that work so hard the other 364 days of the year.

“So hopefully we'll have a good turnout today and give our working people a break, cause that's what makes a difference to us is to make sure they have a day off and enjoy their work. A lot of people don't give them credit for what they do and that's what its all about today to make sure they have a day of rest,” said Charlie Clephas, President with GLCLC/UA 502.

Along with discounted tickets to the zoo, families got to see more than 100 classic cars in a car show.

Children were able to experience fun rides and zoo attractions.

U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes was also present to meet and greet attendees.
