Jeffersonville Police expect to don body cameras by early November

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville Police officers could be wearing body cameras on duty by early November.

Tuesday night, the city council approved $40,000 to buy 60 cameras for all beat officers, school resource officers and others. Police Chief Chris Grimm says recordings from the cameras will protect officers and citizens and provide evidence when needed.

Grimm says the department started looking at cameras several months ago. However, the recent strife in Ferguson, Missouri, highlights the need for them.

Other southern Indiana departments use cameras on a piece-meal basis.
