Police investigating after man shot in face in Valley Station

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating after a shooting in Valley Station early Thursday.

The victim was found in the parking lot of St. Peter the Apostle Church in the 10800 block of Deering Road.

That's where police responded to a 911 call from a woman who said the victim had a hole in his face from an apparent bullet wound.

Kathleen Traynor made the call and tells WDRB's Rachel Collier she tried to help the victim, with dispatchers on the phone instructing her on how to administer first aid.

"He looked like he was beat up and shot," Traynor said. "There was a hole right above his mustache.... It couldn't have been any bigger than a .22 bullet. And his face was real beat up - there was blood everywhere."

Traynor says the victim was conscious, and told her he is 43 years old and that his vehicle was down the street.

The victim was taken to University Hospital for treatment. There's no word yet on his condition, but police say he is expected to survive.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD.
