Downtown parking now enforced on Saturdays

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Free Saturday parking in downtown Louisville is now a thing of the past.

And some residents think the new rule could affect downtown business.

"I don't think it's going to keep people away any more than it already did with the area being what it is," Hannah Cady said. "But I'm sure a lot of local people who work down here are not going to be too happy about it."

By law, drivers are supposed to pay to park at the meters on Saturdays. But it wasn't really enforced.

The hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Several meters on Saturday were occupied without pay.

In fact, one woman even walked away laughing after she was told it was no longer free.

Two parking enforcement officers will hand out tickets.

There are also new rates at downtown meters. It now costs $1.50 per hour.
