Dozens march in honor of 1-year-old murder victim

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dozens of community members marched down W. Chestnut Street Sunday in memory of Ne'riah Miller, 1, who was shot and killed in the Shawnee Neighborhood.

Police say Ne'riah was killed around 6 p.m. August 27 when at least one gunmen ran up on the front porch of her family's home in the Shawnee neighborhood and fired shots. Ne'riah was sitting on the porch with her mother, Cierra Miller, who was injured in the shooting.

Miller, along with her husband and Ne'riah's father, led the march down Chestnut. Miller was in a wheelchair, as family say she is still recovering from gun shot wounds.

Rapper Master P along with community leaders organized the march. They not only wanted to show support for Miller's family, but they wanted to encourage an end to the violence.

Many community leaders have said that Ne'riah's murder is an indication that the violence problem in Louisville has hit a new low.

"This girl lost her life and she could have been a star," said Master P. "We want to send that message--you just stopped a life from somebody that could have been successful, could have been amazing."

Ne'riah's family says the outpouring of support has been overwhelming, and that the march was another great example of that.

"I never knew that so many people cared and were there to support my family and grandchild," Shamille Miller "To turn around and see people, I was like 'wow, there are people who care.'"

Trey Anderson and Michael Dunn were arrested and charged with the baby's murder last week. LMPD says they are still investigating Ne'riah's murder, and more arrests are possible.
