Web sites post loading symbol to protest 'Internet fast lanes'

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you noticed something different on sites around the Internet today, you're not alone.

Top online sites like Netflix and Reddit are keeping their loading symbol up the whole time you're on the page.

It's all part of Internet Slowdown Day -- a protest against the government's support for what's called "Internet fast lanes." Internet providers may soon be able to charge big companies like Amazon and Netflix extra money. In exchange, the providers will make sure those companies' Web sites load faster than other, smaller sites.

Some see it as giving certain companies an unfair advantage and too much control.
