LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An LMPD officer was arrested in Bullitt County Thursday and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident, according to Louisville Metro Police.

A spokesperson confirms Officer James Hemmer, Jr. was arrested September 11 by the Mount Washington Police Department.

Public Information Officer Carey Klain says LMPD's Public Integrity Unit was made aware of the charges and will be following the investigation. The Professional Standards Unit has also initiated its own investigation.

Klain says Hemmer has been placed on administrative reassignment and his police powers have been suspended. Hemmer has been with LMPD since February of 1999.
