LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A Louisville Metro Police officer has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, according to court records.

An arrest warrant states Christopher Cowan got into an argument with the victim inside Stooges Bar on Saturday. Police say as Cowan was leaving, the victim followed him out to his car to retrieve her keys.

According to the complaint, Cowan threw her keys out the door and pushed her face out of the vehicle. "While victim looked for keys, deft (Cowan) placed vehicle in reverse and quickly backed out of parking spot striking victim with the vehicle causing bruising to her thigh," the arrest warrant states.

The report says both Cowan and the victim had been drinking and he had been asked to leave the bar.

Cowan now faces a 4th degree assault/domestic violence charge. According to LMPD Public Information Officer Carey Klain, he was booked into Metro Corrections. Klain says he's been placed on administrative reassignment and his police powers have been suspended.

Klain says Cowan was hired in August 2006.
