LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man was arrested Wednesday after police say he tried to walk out of a bowling alley with a bottle of liquor he didn't pay for.

According to an arrest report, it happened just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Frederick's Fern Bowl at 5518 Bardstown Road. That's where an off-duty University of Louisville officer allegedly saw 25-year-old Thomas Lancer jump over the counter of the bar and place beer from a cooler on the counter, saying they were "for the customers."

The arrest report states that Thomas then grabbed a bottle of Absolut Vodka and left the bar area, walking toward the exit. As he was about to exit, police say Thomas saw an LMPD officer approaching, then reached for the officer's gun while stating: "I need one of those."

The officer shielded his gun with his hand to prevent Thomas from grabbing it, police say.

Thomas was arrested without incident as he tried again to leave the building. He's charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking.

The vodka was valued at $28.
