LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Supreme Court says state police were wrong to use a high school student as a drug informant.

After his identity was compromised, the student was later tortured and killed.

The decision late last month re-instates an award of more than $148,000 to the estate of 18-year-old LeBron Gaither of Lebanon, Kentucky.

He was murdered in 1996.

His grandmother sued, and lost, cases in circuit and appeals courts that said state police may have been negligent, but were immune to a lawsuit.

However, the state's highest court disagreed.
