LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Hundreds took to the streets of Louisville today, biking to beat cancer.

The ride, put on by Kosair Children's Medical Center, was a fundraiser for Norton Cancer Institute.

This is the sixth year for the "Bike to Beat Cancer" event.

Riders had the option of a 35, 65, or 100-mile bike ride.

More than 800 cyclists took part, including cancer survivors and their friends and family.

"Well you know this work is so important because the incidents of cancer here in the United States outpaces many other countries we know here in Kentucky," said Lynnie Meyer of North Healthcare. "We out pace the nation."

The event raised more than $400,000, which will go to clinical trials, survivorship programs and research for families dealing with cancer.
