Eviction hearing set for waterfront park Tumbleweed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The owners of a well-known waterfront restaurant in Louisville are headed to court Tuesday morning over an eviction notice.

Tumbleweed owes thousands of dollars in rent for its location on the waterfront. Tuesday's hearing is required before the restaurant can legally be evicted.

The landlord claims Tumbleweed is already behind more than $17,000 in rent and the next three-month payment is due next week.

The Waterfront Development Corporation says the restaurant hasn't made its quarterly-payment since July, and they say Tumbleweed wants its rent cut in half.

"I would go back to Joe's Crab Shack and the Tumbleweed have the same agreement to pay 3.5% of gross and there'd be no reason to cut somebody's rent. If one is doing fine, the other should be doing fine," Waterfront Development Corporation President David Karem says.

Tumbleweed says the lease is too expensive, so the restaurant isn't making money and wants a better lease.

An attorney also claims the restaurant has "mistakenly" overpaid more than $450,000 in rent since 2009.
