Cashion to stand trial for attempted murder of police officer in April

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Cody Cashion's trial for attempted murder of a police officer has been moved to next April.

The teen was sentenced to 195 years in prison after pleading guilty to starting a fire that killed three children on Jan. 4. Three children -- 6-year-old Tai'zah, 2-year-old Trinity and 4-year-old Tyrese -- died in the fire. Their sister, 5-year-old Tatyana Hughes, survived but suffered severe burns.

Cashion is accused of stealing an SUV and intentionally colliding head-on with a Clarksville police cruiser about a week after setting the fire. The officer was hospitalized after the crash.

Cashion did not appear in court Tuesday but his attorney and the prosecutor agreed to delay his trial until April because of another murder trial scheduled in Clark County in October.

Until then, Cashion will begin serving his prison sentence for the deadly fire.
