With unpredictable arrival of flu season, doctors say don't delay getting a flu shot

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, doctors say you should get it now.

They say it takes two weeks for the vaccine to take effect and they don't know when flu season will hit.

This year, about half of all flu shots carry four strains, while others carry only three.

Doctors advise getting the shot that covers four strains if it's available.

All mist-based flu vaccines carry the four strains. This year is the first year the CDC has recommended flu mist instead of the shot for kids ages two to eight.

Studies suggest the flu mist is more effective in that age group.
