I-65 South set for traffic shift

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - First the Big Squeeze and now a traffic shift.

On Wednesday evening, southbound traffic on I-65 will shift first, resulting in a split configuration for drivers.

Crews will be shifting the two lanes of I-65 South to the right.

The two lanes will join again near Court Avenue.

The interstate is divided for more than half a mile.

Drivers planning on taking Exit 0 need to pay special attention to the new configuration.

"Get in that right channel at the split so that they're ready when the two lanes merge again right around Court Avenue for Exit 0, but we don't really want cars diving over," said Downtown Crossing spokesperson Mindy Peterson.

Crews will install a barrier along I-65 South this week to prepare for the shift of northbound traffic that is expected to start next week.

During this phase of construction all exits will remain open.

The "Big Squeeze" reduced I-65, in both directions, from three lanes to two, from the Kennedy Bridge to Brown's Station Way.
