BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WDRB) – Home is where the Hilltoppers haven't been.
Since the season opener against Bowling Green State University on August 29, they've been in Illinois, Tennessee, and Maryland. They've been everywhere it seems, except Bowling Green, Kentucky.
But that changes Saturday when Western Kentucky (2-2, 0-1 C-USA) hosts UAB (2-2, 0-1 C-USA). It will be the Hilltoppers first home game in more than a month.
“We definitely knew the first four games were going to be a challenge with the competition that we were playing and three of them being on the road,” said Head Coach Jeff Brohm. “That's what college football is about. It makes your team better.”
The Hilltoppers believe they are a better team since the last time their fans saw them at home. They are coming off an emotional 36-27 victory at Navy. Brohm believes they're making significant strides.
“When you go to Navy and find a way to win you prove you're a hungry football team,” said Brohm. “I was proud and happy for our team to find a way to win that football game.”
Now Brohm is looking to use momentum from the Navy game to help grab the team's first ever Conference USA victory.
“It's a big game for us,” said Brohm. “Both us and UAB are sitting at 0-1 in the conference. We both need to find a way to win the football game.”
Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm ET Saturday night.
