Kentucky National Guard members leave to help with Ebola crisis

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- 60 Kentucky National Guard members left Louisville on Thursday night for Africa to help with the Ebola crisis.

The group is headed to Senegal with what's described as an "airbase in a box."

The guardsmen will open a runway and establish airfield operations, so more aid and medical supplies can flow into affected areas.

The 123rd Contingency Response Team participated in a similar mission in 2010, after the earthquake in Haiti.
