LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A funeral was held Monday for a 12-year-old boy who was murdered and found dead last week.

A funeral service took place Monday morning for 12-year-old Ray Etheridge, who was found murdered last Tuesday in Cherokee Park in Louisville.

The funeral was held at the Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville. Visitation began at 10 a.m. The funeral started at 1 p.m.

A makeshift memorial was placed across from Hogan's Fountain inside Cherokee Park, near the area where Etheridge was found.

Police say 21-year-old Joseph Cambron admitted to stabbing Etheridge multiple times and then trying to conceal the murder weapon.

Charles Meredith, Etheridge's step-father, said, "He's a 12-year-old just trying to find his way and he never had a chance. You're 21. How are you going to fight a 12-year-old with a knife? You're six-foot something. Ray's 100 pounds. How are you going to fight a 12-year-old? Ray was fighting for his life."

Cambron told police that he had been accused of sexually abusing five children during an investigation that happened last year, but stated that he was innocent. Cambron admitted that he also had anger problems.
