CRAWFORD | Petrino says "there's a good chance" DeVante Parker will play at Clemson

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino said he expects to have senior receiver DeVante Parker available when the Cardinals travel to Clemson this Saturday.

Parker suffered a broken foot in a preseason scrimmage and hasn't played since, but Petrino said he ran routes with the team last week and that "all indications are that he'll be good to go, from what I hear from our medical staff."

Petrino said how Parker is able to handle practice this week ultimately will determine whether and how much he plays, though he added, "we have to be smart with how we practice him."

Parker would be a huge addition for a Cardinal offense that has struggled at times. As one of the nation's top receivers, he commands attention from opposing defenses, allowing Petrino more freedom to be creative in play-calling elsewhere.

The 6-3 Louisville native decided not to try the NFL Draft after catching 55 passes for 885 yards and a school-record 12 touchdowns as a junior.

"Everybody's excited for this," sophomore running back Brandon Radcliff said. "Everybody's ready for DP to come back. . . . He gives us that juice on the outside. He's an X-factor for us. . . . He's one of the best athletes I've ever played around."

Petrino, when asked how long it takes a player like Parker to get back up to speed coming off such an injury, quipped, "Four days would be good for me."

The Cardinals opened as a 10-point underdog at Clemson. That line went down to 7.5 points for a short period, then swelled back to 12 points. Parker's presence should change that, and the outlook for a team that is still looking for its offensive identity. The game will be played at Clemson's Memorial Stadium with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
