Ford, UAW launch program to teach business at Louisville schools

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Ford and the United Auto Workers have announced a new program designed to teach business skills at Louisville schools.

Funded by a $350,000 grant, the program brings teams of teachers into the Louisville assembly plant to gain first hand experience in the work situations their students will face. It's all designed to help prepare students for college and their careers... by bridging the gap between classroom learning and the lessons of workplace experience.

"This is an opportunity for students to actually work on authentic projects in high school and learn their academics in a very meaningful way that gets them excited about their academics and they now know how they're going to apply them when they go into the world of work," said Next Generation Learning Director Cheryl Carrier.

The grant is part of $1 million in new scholarships, grants and career outreach programs launched by Ford this month to further its commitment to education.
