LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is in custody months after police say he robbed a man, then tried to kill him.

It happened on June 25, just before 6 p.m., according to an arrest warrant.

Police say a man visited 30-year-old Deany Hampton on Heathmoore Court, near the interchange between Westport Road and the Gene Snyder Freeway, to talk to him about money the victim claimed he was owed.

At that point, police say, Hampton and several unidentified men surrounded the victim and tried to take his property by force. Hampton allegedly pulled a gun, and shot the man at close range in the abdomen, seriously injuring him.

Hampton then ran away, according to the arrest warrant.

The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition. According to the warrant, the victim and multiple other witnesses identified Hampton as the shooter.

Hampton was arrested in Cincinnati Thursday afternoon. He has been charged with attempted murder and first degree robbery.
