LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are investigating a report that a middle aged man tried to lure a 9-year-old Okolona Elementary School student into his car Wednesday morning.

According to Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, police were contacted by security officials at the school. They said that on Wednesday morning, a 9-year-old girl told them that a man asked if she wanted a ride while he was stopped at a stop sign at the corner of Huntington Lane and Preston Highway, in front of the school.

The alleged incident took place just before 9 a.m.

Police say the girl told school officials that she ran away and immediately reported the incident to the school.

The man is described as a heavyset white male between the ages of 55 and 65, with brownish gray hair. He was driving a white two-door vehicle of unknown make and model, that appeared to be a sports car with shiny wheels.

Police say they have stepped up patrols in the area and have disseminated the description info.

JCPS also sent a letter home with parents of children at the school, making them aware of the incident. Click HERE to read a copy of that letter.
