Louisville Fire Departments hold open houses at all 21 locations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - It's not too often you get to tour a fire station, but 21 Louisville Fire Departments held open houses Sunday.

Children had the chance to try on helmets and get behind the wheel of a fire truck.

And with winter right around the corner, people learned about smoke detectors and how to heat their homes correctly.

The firefighters also explained what they do on a daily basis.

"There's always misconceptions of how we spend our day or how their tax money is being spent," Capt. David Crimson said. "But we can show them all the fantastic ways we're doing that, either with medical runs or fire prevention."

Firefighters install smoke detectors in homes for free anytime of the year.
