LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say an employee of a popular doughnut franchise was caught stealing money from the cash register and keeping it for her own use.

According to an arrest warrant, the crimes took place at the Dunkin' Donuts store on Shelbyville Road, near Juneau Drive, between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30.

Police say 34-year-old Crystal Luttrell was a shift leader at the store, and on numerous occasions, she would create fraudulent returns. She would then allegedly remove cash from the register in the amount of the fraudulent returns and keep the money for herself.

Police say surveillance video recorded Luttrell entering refunds when no customer was there, and either putting the money in her pocket, or walking away from the register with the money in her hand.

The total amount of cash allegedly taken by Luttrell was in excess of $2,400.

Luttrell was arrested just before 11 a.m. Sunday and charged with theft.
