LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Centennial Festival of Riverboats kicked off Tuesday night along River Road as the steamboat was re-christened with bottle of Old Forester bourbon.

The festival features art, music, bourbon and Kentucky culture at Waterfront Park. Six river boats are in town for the event to honor the Belle of Louisville for its 100th Birthday.

"Were going to have six days of activities," Governor Steve Beshear said. "There's going to be other boats here, people can ride on and see and visit. All kinds of activities. We're going to celebrate the best the Kentucky has here for the next six days and bring about 300,000 we think in here as tourists, to spend their money and have a great time," Governor Steve Beshear said.

On Wednesday, U of L's homecoming will be celebrated on the Waterfront at 6 p.m. with athletes, coaches and the homecoming court.

The officials birthday celebration will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the boats will parade down the river. The celebration will also include fireworks at night and the singing of Happy Birthday to the Belle.

Four other riverboats have joined the Belle for the celebration:

  • The Belle of Cincinnati: Cincinnati, OH
  • The Spirit of Jefferson: Louisville, KY
  • The Spirit of Peoria: Peoria, IL
  • The River Queen: Newport, KY
The festival will run through Sunday with additional daily events and activities.
