POLICE: Indiana man stole $11,000 worth of tires; assaulted a victim

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Louisville Metro Police have arrested a Jeffersonville, Indiana man who they say stole several thousand dollars worth of tires.

Aaron Dunphy, 36, was taken into custody Tuesday night in the 400 block of North 29th Street, between West Market and Bank streets in the Portland neighborhood, after police say he stole more than $11,000 worth of tires from the Firestone Tire store located at 401 East Broadway in Louisville.

Police records state that Dunphy identified himself as a "Tires Plus" employee on multiple occasions and took tires from the Firestone location. Police allege that Dunphy stole tires valued in the amount of $11,563.16.

Police say that Dunphy engaged in a physical altercation on August 30 with a male victim. The fight was started when the victim attempted to remove the keys from Dunphy's vehicle and contact police. The victim told police that Dunphy pushed him and struck him in the head with a phone.

Dunphy was positively identified by multiple witnesses and police state that he admitted to his involvement in the theft.

He's charged with theft and assault and is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.
