Governors of Indiana and Kentucky to celebrate completion of Milton-Madison Bridge

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The governors of Indiana and Kentucky plan to come together this month to celebrate the completion of the new Milton-Madison Bridge.

The dedication ceremony was set to take place Oct. 1, but it has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28.

The new bridge construction was significant because of the process used. Temporary piers were built alongside the old bridge, then it took about 16 hours to slide a 30-million-pound steel truss into place, forming the new bridge.

The contractor says it was the longest bridge in North America to be slid laterally into place.
