Clark County officials looking for AWOL sex offenders

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Clark County law enforcement agencies are keeping tabs on the 190 sex offenders in the county, but they've found eleven are not living at their listed addresses. Now, the sheriff's department is working with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate them before Halloween.

Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull says it's important to know where all sex offenders are living at any time of the year, but with Halloween approaching the need is even more urgent.

He says two of the offenders have been arrested locally, but another man was found in Belize. Mull is using public money to extradite the suspect in Belize.

"I did not feel like it was right for him to flee to Central America and for me to say 'No, it's too much money to get him,'" Mull said. "I want to make sure we're protecting children anywhere to the extent that we can."

According to detectives any kind of border crossing in relocation - even to Louisville - can lead to additional charges.

Detectives expect to make another arrest this week. “Nine to go,” Mull said. “We're working on the list and I'm convinced we'll have it whittled down and most of these offenders in custody pretty soon.”

Mull says he is confident all of the offenders will be located in the near future. In fact, according to Sex Offender Division Commander Lt. Tim Franklin, four more suspects were taken into custody since this story was first posted on Oct. 15.
